Our Story — Sweet & Simple Soap, Maine
Born from a love of craft and clean living
Sweet & Simple Soap was born from a simple conviction: your skin deserves better than a bar of synthetic detergent dressed up in pretty packaging. We make real soap — cold-process, handcrafted in small batches in the mountains of Maine — using extra-virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil, and shea butter as our base.
Why cold-process?
Cold-process soapmaking is a centuries-old craft. When oils meet a lye solution, a chemical reaction called saponification transforms them into soap and glycerin. By keeping temperatures low, we preserve the natural glycerin that forms in every bar — the same glycerin that big commercial brands strip out and sell separately. The result is a bar that lathers creamily and leaves skin feeling moisturized, not tight.
Every bar cures for four to six weeks in our studio before it ships. That slow cure drives saponification to completion, hardens the bar, and concentrates the lather. It’s the opposite of fast. It’s exactly right.
Small batches. Big difference.
We pour, cut, and hand-stamp every bar ourselves. Small batches mean we can pay close attention to every pour, adjust formulas with the seasons, and know exactly what goes into each bar we ship. There is no assembly line here — just a workbench, a scale, and a lot of care.

Maine isn’t just our address — it’s our inspiration. The clean air, the birch forests, the salt wind off the coast, the long winters that make spring smell extraordinary. You’ll find all of it in our scents: Northwoods, Stonecutter, Zen Meadow, Sauna. We make soap that smells like the place we love.
