Frequently Asked Questions — Sweet & Simple Soap
What makes Sweet & Simple Soap different from store-bought soap?
Most commercial “soaps” are technically synthetic detergent bars — they’re made with surfactants derived from petrochemicals, and the natural glycerin produced during manufacturing is removed and sold separately. Our cold-process soap retains all of its natural glycerin, which attracts moisture to the skin and leaves it feeling soft and supple rather than tight or dry after washing.
What is cold-process soapmaking?
Cold-process soapmaking combines plant-based oils (olive, coconut, shea butter) with a lye solution. The lye triggers saponification — a chemical reaction that transforms the oils and lye into soap and glycerin. By the time a bar has fully cured, no active lye remains. What’s left is a gentle, moisturizing soap with a naturally creamy lather. We choose cold-process because it produces the most luxurious bar and retains the most beneficial glycerin.
Is your soap safe for sensitive skin?
Our soaps are free from synthetic detergents, sulfates, parabens, and artificial preservatives. Many customers with eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, or generally reactive skin find our bars gentler than commercial alternatives. If you have specific ingredient sensitivities or known allergies, we recommend reviewing the full ingredient list on each product page before purchasing.
How long will a bar last?
With proper care, a Sweet & Simple bar typically lasts four to six weeks with daily use. The most important thing you can do to extend bar life is keep it on a well-draining soap dish between uses — a bar that stays dry between showers lasts significantly longer than one that sits in standing water.
Where are your soaps made?
Every bar is handcrafted in small batches in the mountains of Maine, USA. We pour, cut, and cure everything in our own studio.
How long does shipping take?
We ship orders within one to three business days. Domestic orders typically arrive within three to seven business days after shipping, depending on your location. You’ll receive a tracking number as soon as your order ships.
What are your soaps made from?
Our base oils are extra-virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil, and shea butter. Each bar also contains a combination of skin-safe fragrance or essential oils, natural colorants (clays, botanicals, or skin-safe micas), and occasionally exfoliants like oats or poppy seeds. Full ingredient lists appear on every product page.
Do you offer wholesale or custom orders?
Yes — we’d love to work with you. Whether you’re stocking a boutique, planning a wedding favor, or looking for a corporate gift, please contact us to discuss pricing and minimums.
Can I return a bar of soap?
Because soap is a personal care item, we cannot accept returns of opened bars. If your order arrives damaged or there’s a problem with your shipment, please reach out within seven days of delivery and we’ll make it right.
